The Anglican Diocese of Kaduna has announced the d3ath of Venerable Edwin Achi, Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, who was kidnapped along with his wife and daughter on October 28, 2025
In a statement on Wednesday, the diocese described Achi’s death as “a painful loss to the entire diocese, the clergy, the church family, and all who were blessed by his faithful ministry, humble spirit, and unwavering devotion to the service of God.”

The statement added that his wife and daughter remain in captivity. “We continue to pray for the release of his wife and daughter who are still in the hands of kidnappers,” it said.
To honour the late priest, the diocese announced the cancellation of its Stand Up for Jesus 2025 event. “On this note, the Stand Up for Jesus 2025 is hereby cancelled in honour of the late Venerable Edwin Achi,” the statement noted.

According to Daily Trust, Achi and his family were abducted after bandits attacked their home in Nissi community, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna, shortly after relocating there. The kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of N600 million.
The deceased was originally from Umuaja in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State.
