Joseph Aloba, popularly known as Baba Mohbad, father of the late Afrobeats singer Mohbad, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the international community for help in conducting a DNA test on his grandson, Liam
Almost three years after the 27-year-old singer, born Ilerioluwa Aloba, passed away, his remains are still in the morgue as burial plans stall over unresolved paternity questions.

A court had previously ordered DNA collection, but the process has been repeatedly delayed due to logistical challenges with laboratories abroad. The ongoing dispute between Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi Aloba, and his family has kept the matter tied up in legal battles since September 2023.
In a video posted online, Baba Mohbad expressed deep frustration, calling the delay painful. He said burying his son without resolving the DNA issue could make it impossible to confirm the child’s identity.
“I’m pleading with the entire world, not just Lagos state government, for help. I’ve been trying to reach President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I need to conduct a DNA test so I can finally lay my son to rest. If I bury him now, how will I do the DNA test? Who will I test? I want to be sure Liam is truly my grandchild,” he said.
Baba Mohbad accused Lagos State authorities of deliberately frustrating the process, alleging a welfare officer recommended unverified hospitals to delay the test. He added he plans to return to his home state, Ekiti, once justice is served.
“I don’t understand why Lagos state is deliberately delaying the DNA process, just to punish me over my son. The welfare officer who picked fake hospitals for DNA should be punished,” he said.
