Following his release from EFCC custody over allegations of Naira abuse, E-Money, has issued a public advisory on the appropriate way to gift money at parties and events

E-Money, who was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for reportedly spraying foreign currency at an event, shared his message in an Instagram video of himself dining aboard a plane. In the caption, he emphasized the importance of respecting the country’s currency laws.
“Attention! The EFCC reminds us: Spraying Naira (or any currency) at parties/events is against the law! Let’s celebrate responsibly and avoid fines. Respect our currency! If you must give money at a party, make sure you put it in a basket or in a bowl or container in front of the person at the party. Don’t drop any currency on the floor. This is advised by the EFCC. Ignorance is not going to be an excuse. Let us be aware and abide by the rules, as it’s the law of the land,” he wrote.
He ended his post with hashtags promoting responsible celebrations, including #EFCC #NoToNairaAbuse #CelebrateResponsibly #NoToSprayingOfForeignCurrency.
E-Money’s statement comes as part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to combat the illegal practice of spraying currency, especially foreign notes, at public events. The practice has long been prohibited under the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, and recent crackdowns have led to arrests and legal actions against individuals involved.
The EFCC has continued to stress that defacing, spraying, or stepping on Naira is a punishable offense, urging the public to handle the national currency with respect and in compliance with the law.
