France has triumphantly reclaimed its throne for the world’s longest baguette, dethroning Italy’s record with a colossal loaf measuring 140.53 meters.
Five years ago, France faced a bitter defeat when Italy seized the title. But on Sunday, in a spectacle that gripped Suresnes, a suburb near Paris, French bakers rallied to restore their honor with a mammoth baguette fit for the history books.
In a marathon of dough and determination, 18 bakers from the Île-de-France region toiled from the wee hours, crafting the gargantuan loaf according to strict guidelines. As the dough baked in a specially constructed oven, spectators marveled at the feat, while the scent of victory wafted through the air.
At 4:40 pm, amidst cheers and patriotic fervor, the baguette was declared the undisputed champion, surpassing Italy’s previous record by nearly 8 meters. The momentous occasion, celebrated against the backdrop of the iconic Eiffel Tower, underscored France’s unwavering commitment to its culinary heritage.
As tradition dictates, the victorious baguette was ceremoniously sliced and generously spread with Nutella, delighting onlookers and underscoring the communal spirit of the occasion.
