Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has presented brand-new SUVs to all former deputy governors of the state in recognition of their service and contributions to its growth
In a post on his official X handle, Governor Eno described the gesture as a token of appreciation for their years of dedication and sacrifice.

“I presented brand new Land Cruisers to all former Deputy Governors of Akwa Ibom State as a token of appreciation for their years of service and sacrifice,” he wrote, noting that their efforts had helped shape the state’s development and deserved to be acknowledged with comfort and convenience.

The presentation forms part of the state’s N6 billion allocation for vehicle purchases in 2025. According to budget records, N3 billion was set aside for 30 SUVs, while another N3 billion was allocated for 70 saloon cars. From January to September 2024, the state had already spent N1.6 billion on similar SUV acquisitions and N3.6 billion on saloon cars.

While the gesture has been praised by some as a way of honoring past leaders, it has also sparked renewed conversation about government spending and fiscal responsibility.
Governor Eno’s office has yet to confirm whether such vehicle allocations will be extended to other categories of political appointees, leaving questions about the state’s long-term procurement strategy.
