American singer Janet Jackson has opened up about her view on fame and legacy
During her acceptance speech for the Icon Award at the 51st Annual American Music Awards held on May 26, 2025, at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, Janet shared that she doesn’t see herself as a musical icon.
She revealed that neither she nor her famous family, including her late brother Michael Jackson—the ‘King of Pop’—ever set out to become famous. Instead, their true passion was always music.
Janet explained, “I don’t consider myself to be an icon. My family and I never dreamed of being famous. We weren’t raised with that goal. Our love was always for music, dancing, and singing. Fame was something that came later, a result of hard work and dedication.”
The Jackson family, originally from Gary, Indiana, is renowned for their impact on music and entertainment. Several siblings gained fame both as members of the Jackson 5 and as solo artists, with Michael and Janet being two of the most celebrated.
