President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday has revealed that the cancellation of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day military parade gave him a rare chance to rest and enjoy a leisurely breakfast

Speaking at the unveiling of the renovated Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Lagos, Tinubu described the change in routine as refreshing.

“Happy 65th Independence Anniversary. This has broken the monotony of the march-past and parade. By cancelling this programme, I was able to have a good sleep, a nice breakfast, and wait for this evening. And the evening is well spent,” he said.

The Federal Government had earlier announced the parade’s cancellation, clarifying that it did not reduce the significance of the anniversary.

The President’s comment on enjoying a relaxed morning comes after previous Independence Day parades drew attention to his stumble during his first parade as president, a moment that sparked widespread commentary online. The cancellation allowed for a more leisurely and reflective celebration of Nigeria’s 65th year of independence.
