Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, founder of David’s Christian Centre, has stated that it is not biblical for men to be solely responsible for providing for women, cautioning against financial dependence on men.
In a recent sermon, the pastor explained that while providing for women may be seen as a cultural expectation, it is not rooted in biblical teachings. He emphasized that the Bible promotes hard work and personal responsibility rather than reliance on others.

“It never favors you. That idea is cultural, not biblical. The Bible clearly says he who does not work shall not eat,” Okonkwo said.
The clergyman questioned why some women, who were independent before marriage or relationships, suddenly transfer the responsibility of financial provision to men. He described such behavior as “poor people talk,” contrasting it with the mindset of self-sufficiency instilled in individuals from well-off families.
Okonkwo also warned against defining one’s value solely by what a man can provide, noting that such dependence often leads to mistreatment.
“The way some of you are being treated stems from how you rate yourself. If you don’t buy me popcorn, I won’t come, then they’ll treat you poorly and disgrace your family,” he added.
