Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s takeover by antidemocratic interests

In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East LGA of Edo State, Momodu said his decision was immediate and driven by principle.

“My reason is clear and direct,” he wrote. “Our party has undeniably been seized by antidemocratic elements, both from within and outside, in broad daylight.”

He added that it was more honorable to hand over what remains of the PDP to those elements while he and others align with a new coalition — the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Momodu, publisher of Ovation International and a vocal political figure since joining the PDP in 2021, thanked grassroots leaders for their loyalty over the years.

His defection to the ADC marks another major shift in the nation’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections and follows a wave of exits by key PDP members frustrated with the party’s internal crisis.
