JUST IN: EFCC arrests E-Money

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested popular Lagos socialite Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, widely known as E-Money, for allegedly abusing the Naira and defacing foreign currency

E-Money was reportedly picked up by EFCC operatives on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos.

Sources within the commission said on Tuesday that the arrest was linked to his alleged act of spraying United States dollars at public events, which is considered a violation of the Foreign Exchange Act.

“On Monday night, we arrested E-Money for Naira abuse and defacing foreign currencies. Specifically, he was alleged to have sprayed U.S. dollars, which contravenes the Foreign Exchange Act,” one source said. “He was arrested at his Omole, Lagos residence. Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and he will be charged to court once the investigation is concluded.”

Another source confirmed to our correspondent that E-Money is being flown to Abuja for further questioning.

“Yes, he has been arrested and is being flown to Abuja as I speak, to face investigators on the issue,” the source added, requesting anonymity due to not being authorized to speak to the media.

As of the time of filing this report, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale declined to comment on the matter.
