Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan won the silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Monday, finishing the final in 12.29 seconds
The world record holder ran a strong race from start to finish but was edged out by Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who claimed gold with a national record of 12.24 seconds.
Grace Stark of the United States took bronze in 12.34 seconds, while Masai Russell finished fourth in 12.44 seconds.
Amusan, 28, was aiming to defend the world title she won in Oregon in 2022, becoming the first Nigerian and African to claim the 100m hurdles world crown.
Although she missed out on gold, the silver medal adds to her impressive achievements, including a world record of 12.12 seconds, multiple Diamond League victories, and a Commonwealth Games title.
After failing to reach the finals at the last Olympic Games in Paris, Amusan has once again demonstrated her speed and resilience on the world stage.
