A protest erupted on Wednesday at Kwara State Polytechnic after reports of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission operatives near the institution caused panic among students
Eyewitnesses and social media videos showed students running in fear, with one account claiming an officer chased a student, further heightening tension. In response, aggrieved students staged a demonstration, burning tyres along Old Jebba Road leading to the campus to express their frustration.

One anonymous student said, “We suddenly saw people running in different directions. Nobody really understood what was happening at first, but the presence of armed operatives created fear across the campus.” Another added, “It is wrong for such operations to take place when students are writing exams. It disrupted the entire atmosphere and left many of us shaken.”
Our correspondent observed remnants of the protest, including ashes from burnt tyres at the entrance, as authorities increased security. A police van from the Oke-Oyi Division was stationed at the main gate to prevent further escalation.
The Polytechnic management later assured the public that calm had returned. In a statement, it clarified that the EFCC operation occurred in the nearby Agbede village and not on campus. “No arrests of students were made during the security operation,” the institution added.
The protest highlights student concerns over security operations during examinations and the impact on campus life.
