Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo has hailed the Mambas for securing a place in the round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and has promised a special N11.3m reward if they defeat Nigeria
Mozambique booked a knockout-stage clash with Nigeria, one of the standout teams of the tournament, after finishing third in Group F. Their progression came despite a 2-1 loss to Cameroon in their final group fixture.

In a message released on Thursday to the players and technical crew, President Chapo applauded the team’s performance in the group stage, describing the qualification as a historic and commendable achievement that has brought pride to the country.
Representing the Mozambican people, he praised the squad’s courage, discipline, and resilience, noting that their efforts had pushed the nation to a new level on the African football stage.
To further spur the team ahead of the Nigeria encounter, Jornal Notícias reported that President Chapo approved an extraordinary bonus of 500,000 meticais, estimated at about N11.3 million, for each player and member of the coaching staff if they overcome the Super Eagles and reach the quarter-finals.
He also assured the team of the nation’s full backing and voiced confidence in their ability to rise to the challenge against Nigeria.
Nigeria and Mozambique are set to face off at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Monday, January 5, with kickoff fixed for 8 pm.
