President Bola Tinubu on Friday assured Nigerians that the country’s economy is beginning to recover, saying the sacrifices and resilience of the people are starting to produce results

Speaking at the coronation and presentation of Staff and Instruments of Office to the new Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, Tinubu likened the nation’s economic reforms to a “painful surgery” but stressed that prosperity lies ahead.

“Your suffering and perseverance have yielded growth and prosperity. The economy has turned the corner. It is a painful surgery. The moment of prosperity and growth awaits us,” he said.

Oba Ladoja, a former senator and ex-governor of Oyo State, was formally installed by Governor Seyi Makinde in accordance with state laws.

The event was attended by prominent figures including Governors Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Prof. Soji Adejumo, Chief Niyi Akintola, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, and members of the Oyo State Executive Council. Traditional rulers such as the Sultan of Sokoto, Alaafin of Oyo, Soun of Ogbomoso, and Owa Obokun of Ijesa land were also present, along with Christian and Muslim leaders.

Tinubu praised Oba Ladoja as a patriot, businessman, and long-time ally, commending his resilience through political challenges. He also acknowledged the presence of other notable leaders, including former governors Donald Duke, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Ladoja expressed gratitude to the president, Governor Makinde, and other dignitaries for honoring him. He pledged to rule for all residents of Ibadan, regardless of origin, and to work toward providing jobs for every son and daughter of the city.
“I am not a king for Ibadan alone but for all who reside in the city or have passed through it,” the monarch said.

Oba Ladoja also appealed to President Tinubu for the creation of Ibadan State out of the current Oyo State.

Goodwill messages were delivered by Chief Sulaiman Ajewole, Chief Bayo Oyero, and Chief Bola Kareem, who described Ladoja’s ascension to the throne as historic and prayed for a peaceful reign.

Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, in his remarks, described Tinubu’s presence as a homecoming and congratulated the new Olubadan on his installation.
