Raye recently went viral after criticizing the cost of living in the state and remarking on its atmosphere, which sparked widespread reactions. However, in a statement shared online, she expressed regret for how her words were perceived.

*”I want to first of all state that ‘I AM SORRY’ to the people who were born and raised in Lagos State if you feel offended by what I said. I am sorry. But as a visitor here, I could tell there was a difference in the atmosphere and quality of air here.

If the way that I put it triggered your emotions and the love for your birth state, I am sorry. I didn’t mean to talk down on your birth state.”*

Before her apology, Raye had drawn attention with a viral video in which she lamented the economic hardships in Lagos, calling out rising prices of essentials while also describing the city as “smelly.” Her remarks led to intense debate, with some supporting her observations while others criticized her for disrespecting the state.

The controversy reportedly caught the attention of NYSC officials, and Raye later claimed she received threats urging her to retract her statements. She alleged that if anything happened to her, the NYSC Lagos officials should be held responsible.
