The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Professor Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso, has d!ed at the age of 64
His passing was confirmed in a statement issued by his younger brother, Olawale Oyeweso, on behalf of the family. According to the statement, Professor Oyeweso passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, after a brief illness.

Reacting to the news, Olalekan Badmus, Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Digital Media, described the loss as both shocking and painful for Osun State’s academic and political communities. On his verified X handle, he wrote, “Rest in power, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso. An illustrious son of Ede, Osun State, and Nigeria. What a sad loss!”
A distinguished Professor of History, educator, and mentor, Prof. Oyeweso was widely respected for his contributions to education and his active role in politics, particularly within the All Progressives Congress (APC). His work earned him admiration across Osun State, Nigeria, and internationally.
He is survived by his wife, children, and other family members. His burial will take place today at 4:00 PM in his hometown of Ede, following solat Ashri.
