Veteran artist, Paul Play Dairo has shared his experiences with royalty payments and intellectual property challenges since leaving Kennis Music

During an interview on the Afrobeats Podcast, Dairo discussed the limitations imposed by his previous agreement, which prevents him from uploading some of his music to streaming platforms.
He also revealed that he has not received any royalties since departing Kennis Music, citing difficulties in ending these issues due to hesitant parties.
Dairo highlighted the prevalent issue of unauthorized sampling, recalling his legal action against MTN for using his song in an advertisement without consent.
“I faced backlash and insults for suing MTN, with some claiming I was broke and hindering the younger generation’s growth,” he shared.
The R&B singer and producer also mentioned that his tracks, such as “Forever,” “Angel of My Life,” and “Mosorire,” have been repeatedly sampled without permission.
While refraining from naming specific artists, Dairo noted that Blaqbonez’s song “Loyalty” from the album “Young Preacher” was removed from streaming platforms due to copyright issues after sampling his work.
