The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has suspended its National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, over allegations of gross financial misconduct

In a statement released on Tuesday by the party’s spokesperson, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the NWC also announced the suspension of two other key officials: Nze Nnadi Clarkson, the party’s National Auditor, and Uchechukwu Chukwuma, the National Youth Leader.
According to the statement, the suspensions take immediate effect.
“In exercise of its exclusive powers as guaranteed in Article 19.1, 19.3(i), and 19.5 of the Party Constitution (2022 as amended), the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has approved the immediate suspension of the National Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, along with two members of the NWC… over grave allegations of gross financial misconduct, embezzlement, misappropriation, and diversion of party funds,” the statement said.
The decision followed a meeting of the NWC where what was described as “overwhelming evidence” was presented. The suspended officials were allegedly involved in unauthorised financial transactions, personal enrichment schemes, and the movement of funds without NWC approval.
The development comes shortly after reports surfaced on Tuesday that protesters had pulled down the gate of the SDP’s National Secretariat in Abuja, signaling deepening tensions within the party.
