Senator Godiya Akwashiki, representing Nasarawa North under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has passed away at the age of 52 following a prolonged illness
A family source, speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Nassarawa Eggon on condition of anonymity, said Akwashiki died on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at a hospital in India.
Describing his d3ath as a significant loss, the source said Akwashiki’s dedication to the development of Nasarawa North and his numerous empowerment programmes left a lasting impact on the constituency.
“Sen. Akwashiki was the best Senator Nasarawa North has ever produced, thanks to his purposeful leadership. His projects are visible across the constituency, and he was the only Senator from the zone to win a second term,” the source said.
Before his election to the Nigerian Senate in 2019, Akwashiki served as Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
Akwashiki was born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nassarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State.
