Tetairoa McMillan apologizes after livestream slur

Carolina Panthers rookie wideout Tetairoa McMillan, a first-year NFL receiver and former University of Arizona standout, apologized following a livestream moment that triggered widespread backlash.

The first-year standout took to Instagram to address the controversy, admitting fault and expressing regret.

“There’s no excuse for what I said,” McMillan wrote, adding, “I sincerely apologize for speaking thoughtlessly and will do better.”

The incident unfolded during The Streamer Bowl, a charity Madden tournament that pairs NFL players with popular Twitch creators.

While live on stream alongside YonnaJay and Tamir, McMillan blurted out the n-word after celebrating an interception.

The reaction was immediate and awkward. McMillan abruptly walked away from the stream, while the remaining two creators appeared stunned with YonnaJay quietly whispering to Tamir as the moment lingered on air.

Clips of the outburst spread at lightning speed online, racking up millions of views and fueling heated debate across platforms.

Now, attention turns to whether McMillan will publicly address the situation again when he attends NFL Honors later tonight. The timing is notable: the Panthers rookie is a finalist for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The controversy casts a shadow over what has otherwise been an impressive debut campaign for the former University of Arizona star, who hauled in 75 receptions for 1,095 yards and seven touchdowns in his first NFL season.
