Tobi Makinde has cleared the air on speculations about a strained relationship with Funke Akindele, stating that there is no rift between them
During an interview with BBC Pidgin, the actor dismissed the rumours, noting that social media often creates its own narratives that do not reflect reality.
“Nothing really happened between me and Madam Funke. What I’d just say about the matter is that social media likes to write its own script, and then try to find characters to fill it up. Concerning me and Madam Funke’s, our relationship didn’t start on social media, and it won’t end online.”
He explained that what many interpret as distance is simply a result of personal growth and evolving career paths, not a breakdown in their relationship.
“There are just some type of growth that, once you move from one position to another, some relationships would seem like they got lost during that growth. There is no way you will write my name, and you won’t mention my father, Jimi Makinde, or Mr Tunji Bamisigbin, or even Madam Funke Akindele. Those were the key players for my career.”
Makinde also addressed why Akindele was absent at his wedding, explaining that she was occupied with promoting a film at the time and is known for her dedication to her work.
“The time I did my wedding was when she was also promoting her film, and she’s a very busy person, and she holds her craft to heart.”
He added that while he is now focused on building his own productions, their professional relationship remains intact and mutually respectful.
“Currently, I am doing my own thing, doing my own production. If she calls me for a show, of course, I would go if I am not busy. And if I also have a story that I feel she can be inside, of course, I will reach out.”
