The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), has initiated a full-scale investigation into an incident involving a female student, Goddy Mbakwe Precious, and a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye

A viral video circulating on social media shows Precious, a 3rd-year History and International Studies student, recording a TikTok video when Dr. Okoye, walking to his office, briefly tapped her to ask for passage.
The student reacted with surprise, saying, “Can you imagine?” before another clip showed her physically confronting the lecturer as bystanders attempted to intervene.
Dr. Okoye’s sister later recounted his version of events, stating that after overhearing Precious question his authority, he returned to verify if she was his student. Upon discovering she was filming, he reportedly asked her to delete the video to avoid being recorded, which allegedly led to a verbal altercation and later escalated into an assault.
In an official statement on Tuesday, the university’s Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, Njelita Louis O, assured that the incident is being taken seriously.
“The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been made aware of a disturbing incident involving Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a 3rd-year student in the Department of History and International Studies,” the statement read.
Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has ordered a “full-scale, transparent, and unbiased investigation” into the matter, emphasizing the university’s commitment to discipline, fairness, and ethical standards.
“We urge all concerned parties and members of the public to remain calm as we diligently pursue the truth,” the statement added, promising that appropriate actions would follow based on the findings.
The university reaffirmed its stance against indiscipline and misconduct, assuring that further updates would be provided as necessary.
