The United States Embassy Abuja has announced the cancellation of all visa appointments, urging affected applicants to check their emails for updates on new appointment dates
In a notice released on Thursday, the Embassy clarified that visa services will continue at the U.S. Consulate General Lagos.
It also stated that American citizen services remain available in Abuja, but strictly by appointment or in cases of emergency.
The move follows a directive from the United States Department of State authorising the departure of non-essential government personnel and their families from Abuja due to worsening security concerns across Nigeria.
In a revised travel advisory, the Department urged U.S. citizens to reconsider travelling to Nigeria, citing risks such as crime, terrorism, kidnapping, civil unrest, and inconsistent access to healthcare.
