Fresh attacks by Terrorists shook Riyom Local Government Area in Plateau State on Sunday night, claiming at least 10 lives in Jol and Dorowa Babuje (Rob District) between 8:00pm and 9:00pm, according to local sources
Barrister Solomon Dalyop, National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYMA), told Channels Television that nine people were killed in Dorowa Babuje while one person lost their life in Jol during separate but near-simultaneous assaults.

He explained that the assailants who struck Jol came on motorcycles from the Manga axis, despite earlier warnings sent to security agencies about possible attacks in the area. Operation Rainbow, Plateau State’s security task force, was already deployed and managed to repel the attackers, limiting further casualties.
In Dorowa Babuje, the attackers were reported to have emerged from Jong-Wereh, where they had allegedly been camping. Dalyop noted that the military responded swiftly after being alerted, preventing the death toll from climbing higher.
“If not for the quick intervention of the military in Dorowa, the casualty figure would have been much higher. We must commend them for their swift response,” Dalyop said.
Efforts to obtain an official statement from the Plateau State Police were unsuccessful, with the police public relations officer, Alfred Alabo, not responding to calls. The Nigerian Police has yet to release a formal update.
These latest killings add to a disturbing pattern of attacks in Riyom, one of Plateau State’s most volatile areas. Farming communities there have faced repeated night raids, ambushes, and displacement in recent months.
Residents of Jol and Dorowa Babuje are living in fear as families mourn their dead and demand a sustained security presence. Local youth groups and community leaders are calling on federal and state authorities to implement long-term security and peacebuilding measures for Riyom and surrounding communities.
