A 10-year-old girl fell to her d3ath from the window of a New York apartment after arguing with her mother over an iPad
The girl fell from the building on 2157 Southern Boulevard in the Bronx on Thursday night.
According to CBS, the girl and her mother had argued that afternoon about using an iPad.
Around 4:30 pm, the mother left the apartment for a doctor’s appointment.
When she returned home, she found her young daughter lying in the courtyard.
The girl was apparently throwing up blood when she was taken by her parents to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to the New York Post.
Investigators are now looking at surveillance video to determine if the girl was being supervised, and if she fell from a window or the roof.
Authorities said the girl exhibited injuries that were consistent with a fall from a high elevation, including bruising on the feet.
A 30-year resident of the apartment building told the Post that she contacted the police when it happened, but was unaware of what had occurred.
‘My son called out to me and told me to call 911,’ she said. ‘I called 911, and they kept asking me questions. I thought something happened to someone who got off the bus with him [her son].
‘I didn’t know it was my neighbor’s daughter upstairs.’
By the time the concerned resident made it downstairs, the girl had already been taken to the hospital.
She described the 10-year-old’s mother as ‘very, very nice.’
‘She lives above me. Those kids were kept very nice and clean,’ the neighbor said. ‘I’m sorry for the mother. I feel for the mother.’
The long-time resident said that the family was private and that the girl was reserved.
‘The child was very quiet. I would tease her like, “Oh, you look so you,”‘ she recounted.
‘She was a sweetheart,’ the neighbor added.
