14-year-old boy d!es while testing ‘bulletproof’ charm in bottle-smashing ritual

A bizarre tragedy has struck Iyamu Village in Illushi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State, where a 14-year-old boy, Okonkwo Obinna Emmanuel, lost his life while testing the potency of a ‘bulletproof’ charm meant to make him invulnerable to physical attacks

The shocking incident, which occurred on April 2, 2025, turned fatal after a bottle was smashed on the teenager’s head during a charm test — a ritual allegedly led by a self-proclaimed native doctor, Amechi Edozunor, and his accomplice, Kelvin Ugru.

According to reports, the duo had promised the boy invincibility and sought to prove it by breaking a bottle on his head. But the charm failed spectacularly.

Obinna collapsed from the impact, suffering a severe head injury. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries three days later, on April 5.

The horrific event came to light when the deceased’s elder brother, Okonkwo Onyenbuchi, reported the matter to local police.

Both Edozunor and Ugru have since been arrested and detained in connection with the boy’s de.ath.

As of press time, the Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, said he was yet to receive full details of the incident but assured that he would provide updates once he received information from the division handling the case.
