The tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will conclude on July 19, 2026, with the final match set to take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, one of the U.S. venues for the World Cup.

While major football events such as the UEFA Champions League final have long included pre-match performances, a halftime show during a World Cup final is unprecedented.

NFL halftime breaks typically last around 15 minutes, but the Super Bowl extends this to roughly 30 minutes to accommodate elaborate performances. FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed on Instagram that the 2026 World Cup final will adopt a similar format.

“I can confirm the first-ever halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final in New York, New Jersey,” Infantino stated. “This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.”

Infantino highlighted Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, and band manager, Phil Harvey, as key figures in assembling an impressive roster of performers for the 15-minute show.

In recent years, the Super Bowl halftime show has featured global superstars such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga, delivering iconic performances that have become a hallmark of the event.

Coldplay, who headlined the 2016 Super Bowl halftime show, brings valuable experience to the project, setting the stage for what promises to be a spectacular musical experience at the World Cup final.

Notably, American rapper Kendrick Lamar headlined the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans, drawing a record-breaking U.S. viewership of 133.5 million—surpassing Michael Jackson’s 1993 record.
