The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims that Vice President Kashim Shettima could be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 general election
The party’s national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, clarified in a statement on Monday that such speculations are “purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless.” He urged media organisations to avoid amplifying rumours from “news sources of questionable provenance” intended only to sow confusion and discord.

Recent reports suggested figures such as Sokoto Catholic Bishop Matthew Kukah, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, and Defence Minister Lt. Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd) might replace Shettima.
These claims prompted reactions from party leaders, including Minister of Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa, who warned that dropping a Northern Muslim from Tinubu’s ticket could hurt APC’s 2027 election prospects.
Morka noted that while previous stories on Shettima’s alleged replacement were mostly subtle, they recently escalated as specific names were circulated. He called on ministers, senior government officials, and APC leaders to avoid stoking unnecessary speculation and to focus instead on advancing the administration’s agenda.
“Our Party remains focused on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in delivering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, entrenching bold reforms that are transforming the economy, building prosperity, and improving the living conditions of our people,” the statement read.
Morka further urged officials to prioritize diligent service to the government and the party while bolstering the achievements of President Tinubu, describing him as “our inimitable and visionary leader.”
