Relatives described the attack as sudden and shocking, noting that the suspect had a history of mental illness but had never exhibited violent behavior before.

According to WWL Louisiana, one of the sisters has been released from the hospital, while the other remains admitted but is expected to recover.

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) confirmed that Eweni was located in Jefferson Parish and is now in law enforcement custody undergoing medical evaluation.

“Chukwuebuka Eweni has been located in Jefferson Parish. He is currently in law enforcement custody while undergoing medical evaluation at an area facility,” the police said in a statement obtained by Punch Online on Sunday.

NOPD provided details of the November 11, 2025, incident, which occurred around 9:59 pm. Officers responded to a report of “an aggravated battery by cutting believed to be domestic in nature.” Upon arrival, they found an unresponsive adult male with at least one fatal stab wound and two other adult victims with stab injuries inside the residence. The two surviving victims were immediately transported to a local hospital.

Detectives confirmed Eweni’s identification and legal charges, stating: “Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives have developed and positively identified Eweni as the perpetrator in this incident and have obtained an arrest warrant on one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. This suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous.”

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will formally identify the deceased and determine the cause of death after completing an autopsy and notifying next of kin.
