Four suspects linked to the tragic concert hall attack in Moscow on March 22nd have faced trial in a Russian court. Among them, two individuals, aged 32 and 19, admitted their involvement in the incident.
The Basmanny District Court in Moscow officially charged the 32-year-old with leading a group terrorist attack that resulted in multiple casualties. This offence carries a severe penalty, with the possibility of life imprisonment.
Accompanying the 32-year-old were a 30-year-old, a 19-year-old, and a 25-year-old, all citizens of Tajikistan. The attack, claimed by an Islamic State affiliate, resulted in the tragic loss of at least 137 lives.
The court ruled to detain the suspects until May 22 for further investigation. Notably, one suspect arrived directly from the hospital, visibly injured and wearing a hospital gown. Reports suggest the 19-year-old suspect was allegedly filming the attack.
The incident left 182 people injured, according to the Moscow Region Health Ministry. Additionally, President Vladimir Putin mentioned in a televised address the possibility of Ukrainian involvement in facilitating the attackers’ entry, a claim Ukraine has vehemently denied.
As the nation mourns the loss of lives, March 24 has been declared a national day of mourning in Russia. The court proceedings shed light on the gravity of the attack and the ongoing efforts to bring justice to the victims and their families.
