Phyno has explained why some Igbo music superstars can make more money from local events than artists who perform at major venues in the UK.
Speaking on Adesope Live’s Afrobeats Podcast, the rapper said the difference comes down to how often these artists get booked for events such as weddings, birthdays and burials.
He said:
“Igbo superstars make more money than artists who perform at the O2 Arena and London Stadium because they perform every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at weddings, birthdays and burials, while Afrobeats artists need a hit song before they can make money.”
Which meant, the steady stream of private events gives these artists a reliable way to earn throughout the year. Rather than depending mainly on the success of a particular song, they can make money by showing up for celebrations and ceremonies every weekend.
