Rescue efforts are currently ongoing in Taiwan after a 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit its east coast, leaving at least four people dead.
The 7.4 magnitude quake caused buildings to collapse in Hualien, the city closest to the epicentre. It was the strongest tremor in 25 years and also triggered landslides in Taiwan’s mountainous interior.
In Taipei, buildings shook violently, and the quake was felt across the island and offshore islands.
The National Fire Agency reported three deaths at a trail around Taroko National Park near Hualien, with over 50 injuries.
The earthquake triggered tsunami warnings, leading to evacuations in Taiwan and neighbouring countries.
The quake caused power cuts, internet outages, and significant damage to buildings and vehicles.
