Beji Caid Essebsi, 88, is the new Tunisian president.
Essebsi was sworn in today as Tunisia’s first freely elected president. He was the
speaker of parliament under President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in 2011. He pledged
to work towards national reconciliation shortly after taking his oath of
office.
