More than 500 k!lled in Gaza hospital blast
More than 500 people were killed in a massive blast at a Gaza City hospital Tuesday, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said, blaming an Israeli airstrike for the carnage, as the Israel Defense Forces insist the bloodshed was caused by a failed Hamas rocket.
The strike on the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital marks the deadliest single incident since the war broke out and comes just hours before President Biden was expected to visit Israel in a show of support.
Hamas called the blast “a horrific massacre,” saying it was caused by an Israeli strike. Gaza authorities said 500 were killed, adding that the blast mostly killed displaced people.
Israeli officials, however, refuted the report from Hamas, claiming the hospital was not hit by an IDF airstrike, but was instead the victim of a faulty rocket launched by the terrorist group.
“An enemy rocket barrage was carried out towards Israel, which passed in the vicinity of the hospital, when it was hit,” IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari said in a statement.
As the governments blame one another for the bloodiest day since war broke out on Oct. 7, harrowing images from the hospital show many women and children wounded by the strike.
Other pictures show emergency workers carrying the ashen survivors, many of them children, as they work to clear the area where the hospital once stood.
Many of the bodies recovered from the hospital were transported to the nearby Al Shifa Hospital as officials work to try and identify the dead.
