In a candid revelation, 34-year-old Allison Tennyson from Minneapolis shares the painful realities of living with an unusual allergy – semen.
This condition not only causes her severe pain but takes a toll on her se.x life, leaving her worried about the possibility of conceiving.
Allison suffers from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder affecting the skin and organs.
Her intimate life is profoundly impacted, making se.x painful and limiting her physical connection with her partner.
The rare condition, a semen allergy, arises from a reaction to proteins in men’s sperm, causing burning-like sensations. For Allison, this allergy has persisted for over ten years, making condoms an impossible option due to her additional allergy to the material they are made from.
“It hurts to have sex. It’s not appealing to hurt your partner,”
Allison admits, expressing the difficulties she faces in maintaining intimacy with her partner. The challenges intensify as she worries about the burning sensation caused by semen exposure.
Amid her struggle, Allison faces additional health complications, including a blood clotting disorder. Despite being tested for 160 allergens, only a few, including nickel and penicillin, showed positive results.
The prospect of conceiving becomes a source of anxiety for Allison. A risky pregnancy due to her blood clotting disorder adds another layer of concern.
“If having a baby wasn’t an option, it would be pretty heartbreaking,” she reflects, emphasizing the emotional turmoil associated with her unique medical situation.
Fears of Conception
While Allison and her partner have consulted with her doctor, weighing the risks and benefits of pregnancy, uncertainties linger.
“We’ve considered it; we just don’t know yet,” she says, acknowledging the complexity of their decision-making process.
As time ticks on, Allison, at 34, grapples with the realization that her physical condition may influence her choices regarding family planning.
“I’m a little older, but I still have time,” she says, highlighting the ongoing deliberations around the prospect of having a child.
