In 2002, Run DMC’s Jam Master Jay met a tragic end
After decades, his murder mystery finds closure with Karl Jordan Jr and Ronald Washington’s guilty verdict.
Jam Master Jay, whose real name is Jason Mizell, was fatally shot in a Queens recording studio.
Justice was delayed for over 20 years.

Childhood friend Ronald Washington and godson Karl Jordan Jr faced charges of murder linked to firearms and narcotics trafficking.
The unsolved case enraged fans and the music industry.
Defendants Washington and Jordan maintained their innocence, blaming a third defendant, Jay Bryant, whose trial is set for January 2026.
In August 2020, an unsealed indictment revealed the alleged conspiracy by Washington and Jordan, shedding light on a drug-related dispute.
The defense argued that the true killer was Bryant, citing DNA evidence on a hat found at the crime scene. Michael Hueston claimed, “Jay Bryant is literally reasonable doubt.”
Assistant US Attorney Artie McConnell emphasized greed, money, and jealousy as motives. The evidence, McConnell stated, proved Jordan and Washington were the killers.
Jam Master Jay, part of Run-DMC, left an indelible mark on Hip-Hop. Hits like “Walk This Way” defined the golden age.
Closure finally comes as a federal jury delivers a guilty verdict, ending the long-standing saga of Jam Master Jay’s tragic death.
