A late-season nor’easter caused widespread power outages and difficult travel conditions in Maine and New Hampshire, leaving over 400,000 homes and businesses without electricity.
Heavy snow and strong winds toppled trees and power lines, hampering efforts to restore power and making roads treacherous.
Despite the end of the heaviest snowfall, more inches are expected, along with gusty winds, keeping winter weather advisories in effect until Friday morning.
The storm forced school closures and government office shutdowns across the region, with some districts switching to remote learning.
In New Hampshire, a tree fell on a mobile home in East Kingston, resulting in significant damage, but no injuries were reported.
Utility companies are working to restore power, but over 400,000 customers remain affected.
Winter storm warnings and advisories continue, with additional snowfall expected overnight.
In addition to the nor’easter, freezing conditions in the Central Plains and Ohio River Valley threaten crops and sensitive vegetation, while high winds increase fire danger in the Southern and Central High Plains.
