Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made waves at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘B‘ Stream 1 orientation course for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members
The event, held at the NYSC camp in Iyana Ipaja, became a platform for the governor to announce a series of generous financial commitments to support both the corps members and the NYSC body.
In a move that drew cheers from the crowd, Sanwo-Olu declared that each of the 4,277 corps members would receive N100,000, amounting to a total of N427.7 million, but the governor didn’t stop there.
He went on to pledge N100 million to the NYSC and its support staff, further demonstrating the state’s commitment to the program.
The governor’s generosity extended beyond immediate financial support. Looking to the future, he announced the approval of N5 billion for the construction of a permanent NYSC site in the Igando area of Lagos.
In a gesture that particularly excited the young graduates, Sanwo-Olu revealed that 100 corps members would be offered automatic employment in the public service after completing their service year. This announcement was met with enthusiastic applause, as it offered a glimmer of hope in a challenging job market.
