BREAKING! Kano Governor reinstates dethroned Emir, appoints two others

1

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has made significant changes to the emirate system in his state.

In a move that has caught public attention, he has reinstated Aliyu Abdulkadir as the Emir of Gaya, but with a twist – the emirate has been downgraded to second-class status.

Aliyu Abdulkadir’s journey as Emir has been an interesting one. He was first appointed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in September 2021, shortly after his father’s passing. Before that, he held the traditional title of Ciroman Gaya.

But Governor Yusuf didn’t stop there. He also made two new appointments: Muhammad Mahraz, previously the district head of Rogo Local Government Area, is now the Emir of Karaye. Additionally, Muhammad Umar, formerly the district head of Bunkure, has been elevated to the position of Emir of Rano.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, announced these changes, emphasizing that all three – the reinstated Emir of Gaya and the new Emirs of Karaye and Rano – will serve as second-class emirs. This means they will be subordinate to the Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi.

In his statement, Bature congratulated the emirs and encouraged them to be guardians of culture, peace, and unity in their respective emirates. These appointments have taken immediate effect.
