The Federal Government is reviewing the 18-year age limit for university admissions, Minister of Education Professor Tahir Mamman announced at the 68th National Council on Education meeting in Abuja

Mamman emphasized the need for flexibility in admissions for exceptionally talented students, recognizing their unique capabilities. The government will create special provisions for their admission into tertiary institutions.

Clarifying the age limit policy, Mamman stated it only applies to university admissions, not O’level examinations. He also mentioned that the ministry will create guidelines to address cases of exceptionally intelligent learners.

Additionally, the government aims to ensure students acquire at least two skills at basic education levels.

The council is considering a review of the curriculum to align with the digital age, focusing on innovation, digital technology integration, and entrepreneurship skills development.

This review aims to enhance Nigeria’s education sector and prepare students for the digital age.
