The protesters, armed with banners and placards, demanded the full implementation of the reports submitted by judicial panels of inquiry following the 2020 protests.

According to Punch, these panels aimed to address concerns of police brutality, harassment, and extortion.

Protesters reported injuries and arrests as they fled the scene. Excel, a protester, recounted, “I fell into the gutter while escaping the teargas. I was hit on the head.” Bayo Are added, “I was hit but not seriously injured. Some were arrested.”

According to Lagos Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin, officers dispersed the protesters to prevent traffic disruption, using minimal force.

The #EndSARS movement, which began in October 2020, sought to end police brutality and extortion across Nigeria.

Despite judicial panels’ recommendations, many reforms remain unimplemented almost four years later, prompting continued calls for change.
