Former U.S. President Barack Obama has once again shared his annual playlist, and this year, it features two Nigerian stars—Rema and Asake
Known for his diverse music taste, Obama’s 2024 Favorite Songs Playlist showcases a mix of global genres, with Rema’s hit “Yayo” and Asake’s collaboration with Travis Scott, “Active,” making the cut.
Announcing the playlist on social media, Obama captioned:
“Here are my favorite songs from this year! Check them out if you’re looking to shake up your playlist – and let me know if there’s a song or artist I should make sure to listen to.”
The inclusion of Rema and Asake highlights the growing influence of Afrobeats on the global music scene. Both artists have had a stellar year, with Rema continuing his reign as one of Afrobeats’ biggest stars and Asake earning recognition for his unique fusion of traditional Nigerian sounds with contemporary beats.
Obama’s playlist also includes international heavyweights like Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, Beyoncé, and Central Cee, further cementing his reputation for celebrating diverse talent.
