Actress and DJ Dorcas Shola Fapson, popularly known as Ms. DSF, believes people should consider their financial situation before deciding to have children.
She explained that raising children without a stable source of income can put pressure on both parents and the children, stressing that having the means to provide for a family should be an important consideration before becoming a parent.
Ms. DSF cited the experience of a cousin who has five children and has struggled financially since having her first child. According to her, the woman frequently asks for financial assistance to cover school fees and feeding expenses.
Speaking in an interview, she said:
“Poor people shouldn’t have kids. I don’t think it is fair to the children. It is not fair to the family. It is not fair to you. I have a cousin that has five kids and she has been broke since she had the first one
“Why do you have five? Every week, she is requesting for financial assistance for school fees, feeding. It is so unfair. Why have kids when you don’t have means to sustain them? It is not fair.”
Ms. DSF’s position is that prospective parents should think carefully about their ability to cater for their children’s needs before deciding to start a family.
