Stanley Nwabali, the South Africa-based goalkeeper for the Super Eagles and Chippa United, has announced the passing of his mother
He shared the heartbreaking news on X on Wednesday
“RIP mom, worst year of my life already,” he wrote on New Year’s Day, accompanied by tears and heartbreak emojis.
This tragedy comes just two months after Nwabali lost his father in November. His father’s death was announced only hours after he played for the Super Eagles in their 1-1 draw against Benin Republic during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Though Nwabali did not disclose the cause of his mother’s death, it is a painful start to the year for the goalkeeper, who had earlier shared an optimistic recap of 2024.
“2024 was a good year, we’re doubling everything in 2025. Thank you Chippa United FC. Thank you Super Eagles. Thanks to all my fans. Let’s do more!” he wrote just hours before sharing the tragic news.
Nwabali’s post reflects the difficult journey he faces after these successive personal losses.
