Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has ordered the conduct of fresh local government elections following the Supreme Court’s nullification of the October 5, 2024, polls

He also directed Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to take charge of the 23 councils until new elections are held.
Fubara instructed outgoing local government chairpersons to hand over to the HLGAs by Monday, March 3, 2025, ensuring a smooth transition. He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the rule of law, stating that the Supreme Court’s judgment would be fully implemented without reservations.
The governor’s directive aims to maintain stability in local governance while complying with the court’s ruling.
