Paul Obukowho, a 24-year-old upcoming music artist, has d!ed after allegedly being arrested and tortured by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) under the Delta State Police Command in Asaba

According to police sources, Prosper Odili, 19, was randomly arrested by RRS officers on Wednesday around 8:00 a.m. along Redeemed Road, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area. After a search at his home, he was taken to the police headquarters in Asaba.

Eyewitnesses report that Obukowho visited the RRS office later that day to inquire about Odili’s arrest and seek his release. However, he was allegedly detained, handcuffed, and subjected to severe torture in police custody.

By Thursday night, Obukowho reportedly collapsed in the cell due to his injuries. He was rushed to a police clinic, then transferred to Specialist Hospital Asaba, and finally referred to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Asaba, where he succumbed to his injuries early Saturday morning around 4:00 a.m.

Witnesses claim that after his death, the RRS officers who brought him to the hospital fled the premises. As of the time of this report, Obukowho’s body remained at FMC Asaba, surrounded by grieving relatives and friends demanding justice.

Attempts to reach Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe for comments were unsuccessful.
