The Federal Government is preparing to name former presidential aide Reno Omokri, ex-governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and former senator Shehu Sani as ambassadors
Presidency sources disclosed that the nominees are currently undergoing mandatory security screening by the Department of State Services (DSS), which must be completed before any official announcement is made.
This development follows nearly a year after Nigeria recalled all its foreign envoys without immediate replacements, raising concerns about the nation’s diplomatic engagement globally.
According to insiders, the résumés of the proposed envoys have already been submitted to relevant authorities, and background checks are underway.
“Only those who successfully pass the DSS screening will be announced. The process is progressing, and we expect the official list to be made public before the end of this month,” a senior government official revealed anonymously.
