Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that he appointed Nyesom Wike as Chief of Staff during his tenure as Governor of Rivers State to keep him under close supervision

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday, Amaechi said Wike had initially lobbied to become Commissioner for Finance, but he declined the request.
“I wanted him as Chief of Staff so I could supervise him,” Amaechi said. “Adoke flew in from Abuja to Port Harcourt, saying Wike asked me to make him Commissioner for Finance, and I said no — he has to work under me so I can monitor him.”
Amaechi also threw subtle jabs at Wike, dismissing his political rise as self-serving.
“He made himself Chief of Staff. He made himself Governor. He made himself Minister. He made himself Local Government Chairman,” he added. “I’m saying this because I don’t want to join issues with children.”
