The logo was part of the league’s annual campaign for the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).

Following the incident, the French Football Federation handed Matic a two-match ban, to be served at the start of the next season.

He is also required to take part in an awareness campaign addressing homophobia in football. Matic’s action sparked widespread discussion about the balance between personal beliefs and participation in inclusivity initiatives within the sport.

The ban came alongside similar sanctions for Le Havre’s Ahmed Hassan, who also covered the badge. Meanwhile, Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed chose not to play rather than wear a shirt with the logo, citing his personal beliefs.

French Sports Minister Marie Barsacq emphasized that homophobic behavior is unacceptable and highlighted the Federation’s commitment to promoting inclusivity in football and enforcing sanctions when necessary.
