The management of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Kogi State, has arrested a student for raising a false alarm about an ongoing kidnapping of students, which threw the campus into a state of panic
This was disclosed by the institution’s spokesperson, Demia F. S, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Wednesday.
He stated that the uproar of “invading kidnappers” gripped the institution on Tuesday, causing panic on campus and in the university community.
According to him, the panic was fuelled by a video clip circulated to that effect around 6pm on social media and other platforms.
It was gathered that the alarm alerted security operatives, who reportedly stormed the campus only to discover that it was a false alarm by a mischievous student.
“It was a false alarm from an unscrupulous student who was out to cause mischief. There was nothing of such,” Demia F. S said, adding that, “We went around the campus when the news broke out and discovered that no incident as reported was happening. The atmosphere on campus was calm without an ugly incident as portrayed in the video clip.”
He added, “The university management had identified the student behind the posting of the video and has been arrested. The suspect is being interrogated over the incident.”
The police spokesman in the state, William Aya, did not respond to a message sent to him regarding the incident at the time of filing this report.
